Although Ichiro Akutu has previously released single-cask bottlings with age claims, this is the Chichibu distillery's first official ten-year-old bottling. This coming-of-age whisky was matured in a blend of Bourbon casks and mizunara oak and is expected to be a mainstay in the line-up in the coming. Since its release, the Japanese Whisky-loving world has been buzzing, with aficionados praising the appealing brioche and pastry qualities on both the scent and taste, as well as the rich, round, and softly sweet mouthfeel. It's a lovely malt expression, creamy and honeyed with layers of citrus/pear fruit, hay, florals, and oats, as well as the ever-present biscuit element. The finish is long and toasty, with notes of creme brulee and a hint of salinity.
